As I’m writing this the heavy equipment is currently demolishing the old uninhabitable trailer that’s sitting on the space where the church building is going to go. (Would you like to help us with this project?) And I’m thinking about timing, how things really shifted last year (in a good way) and things began to manifest. I’m reminded that around our house we call patience the “p-word”, and when someone says “remember the p-word”, it’s always met with a knowing smile and understanding that patience is required.

The universe doesn’t operate on our time scales, and how could it when our human lifespan is here and gone in less than a blink of the universe’s eye. Cosmic time, divine time, no matter what you call it, it moves far more slowly and far more deliberately. Think of an elephant on a trek for water, taking each step as it comes, moving forward ever closer to its goal. Sure, elephants can run and move quickly when they want, but when that happens, smaller creatures better get out of the way. The same is true with the gods.

It took me about ten years to find someone to demolish the trailer. Now that seems a bit silly in this age of search engines, but when you exist in a more rural landscape your options are limited and sometimes the people you need don’t exist–or you don’t know about them. It took a chance Facebook ad to show me this company, a bit of research, and now the work is happening. And interestingly enough, out of all the people I’ve been dealing with lately, they were the ones who kept me informed of their timeline, showed up when they said they would, and have kept their word. The gods’ hands at work, I’m sure.

It’s tough to trust in the gods. Though they speak to us, quite often it’s through signs and symbols. They don’t show up and say, “hey, prepare for this to happen Tuesday, May 28.” And since many of us find it difficult to trust people whom we can see and talk to, trusting entities which appear in often mysterious or hidden ways can be even more difficult.

But when prayers are answers, rituals heard, and gifts given, it helps us to remember that the gods are listening, and they move in their own time.
